      Not all women do. (For example I am lucky and don’t have any pain during my period.)
      I think some women have cramps but I am not sure why that is. But I guess you can find more info about that on wikipedia.

      I think (I’m no biologist) that it is due to tearing of the wombs lining. Whatever it is, it’s rather annoying!
