Solar cells, better power conversion, low energy consuming electronics and materials to do all of this are being developed right were I work! There’s a lot more going on elsewhere. For instance the types of battery you need to power cars and store energy are being developed, everything is being made more efficient by new materials and new techniques.

well, firstly understand it better. We do to quite a good extent; mainly in that we know the primary causes. But; not knowing how our atmosphere works exactly makes it very difficult to predict exactly what the impact will be and where.
To predict what will happen, and where our efforts are best placed to combat it, we need better complex models of the atmosphere, and the only way to get those is more data (including from the satellite I’m working on).
The other thing is – how to stop or even reverse global warming. This is far more difficult than just predicting it; but again, a better understanding will be a big help.
Global warming is caused by many factors, including sun activity, ocean currents changing, volcanoes. but, it is generally agreed that the human activity has caused the global warming to accelerate, which is why it is the focus of most suggested efforts to reduce pollution and then get the Earth back on track.
Green energy sources are key; and scientists are working very hard to make these good alternatives to current coal or oil. the main problem at the moment is cost or efficiency, so scientists need to work out how to get cheaper solar arrays, better batteries etc so that we will all want to use renewable energy.

Force all countries to reduce their carbon emmission (although that’s job of the politicians rather than the scientists) …
I know there have been some experiments spraying artificial clouds into the sky to reflect and absorb more of the thermal radiation of the sun but I don’t think they were very effective.
I am sure Jess will know more about this …
