Some people do, depends how high up you go!
Luisa Ostertag answered on 21 Jun 2010:
I am still a PhD student so I am living on a studentship, which is okay but it’s not very impressive.
Dean Whittaker answered on 21 Jun 2010:
I earn a little above the national average wage at the moment (but I’ve only just started). Science in general doesn’t pay fantastically but it isn’t bad either – especially if you’re very good.
Jessica Housden answered on 21 Jun 2010:
I’m paid fairly well for my age; I’ve only been working for 4 years and I’ve had some pretty good holidays which is what matters to me.
Like anything, it’s how much you put in; but good scientists will be paid quite well (similar to politicians anyway!).
Alexandra Kamins answered on 22 Jun 2010:
I have a student’s stipend that covers my expenses. It ranges for other scientists, totally depending on where and with whom you work!
