Yes, I went to the University of Bath and did a placement year at ISIS (one of the neutron sources) while I was there. Uni is a fantastic experience whatever you’re going to go off and do – for me it gave me the base knowledge I needed for my job now and lots of contacts. Now I’m half employed by the Uni Bath and half employed by ISIS because I knew the right people to annoy when I was looking for jobs and enjoyed my time at ISIS!
Yes, I went to the University of Dundee. From Sept 2005 to June 2009… so I am a relatively new graduate.. almost exactly a year ago now 🙂 I did a BSc Hons in Zoology! My favourite thing in the world 🙂
I did – although there are lots of routes into science so remember that uni isn’t the only option. I did a three year degree (called a Bachelors) at the University of Birmingham in the Physics department. The degree was called Physics with Space Research, so it had a variety of general physics and maths along with some more specific Space and engineering topics.
I decided that I loved the spacecraft engineering part, so after this degree I headed to London for one year to do a Masters at UCL (University College London) which is spacecraft design specific. This was partly physics and electronic engineering (so studying how we send signals, data processing, antenna design; that sort of thing).
Interestingly though; it would have been possible to join my company without going to uni and joining as an apprentice after GCSEs.
Yes, I did go to uni too. The first three years in Germany and then another one in Aberdeen. There I gained my Bachelor of Science. I really liked going to uni (well, most of the time) and especially because I got parts of the German and parts of the UK system, which focus on different things (Germany: lots of practical lab work and writing lab reports; UK: writing essays and articles for publication) I learned really many things that I need every day now.
